September Event - Final Groupings
Fellow Golfers,
Just wanted to give you all a quick update on the upcoming Bingo-Bango-Bongo event at the Reserve.
We are playing the North Course at the Reserve Golf Club & Vineyards on Saturday, September 27th.
We have five tee times, starting at 11:42 A.M. (the start time may fluctuate slightly as some folks from the prior major event make the turn). Groupings are pre-assigned (see your tee times, below). We will have special tournament score cards that have the names pre-printed and have a place to record the Bingo-Bango-Bongo points. We will have two prizes per foursome, one for most B-B-B points and one for 2nd most. We'll award them in order of most points for 1st place prizes, then most B-B-B points for 2nd place prizes - that way the ones with the most points will get earlier picks of the prizes.
We have 8 hole prizes (TekGolf Balls), 5 KPs (holes 3, 5, 11, 14, & 16 are all par 3's), Men's long Drive (hole 9), Women's Long Drive (hole 8) and one Best 2nd (hole 4). We will also have a simple prize for low net (a sleeve of balls, not a TekGolf shirt).
They are reserving space in the Restaurant for us after the round for our prize awards (they have a larger event using their big tent and other facilities). The entry fee does not include any food or drinks. The last group should be off the course by 5:00 and we should conclude the prize awards by somewhere around 5:30.
The Reserve has a dress code that requires shirts with collars and does not allow denim. Be sure you have appropriate clothes!
Come early enough to hit some range balls - they are included in the package.
Upon Arrival - Green Fees are pre-paid - Just get your clubs to the Cart pick up area - they have assistants that will take them down from the Bag Drop out front if you want (tips are appropriate). Find the cart with your name on it and load up. Make sure you connect with your cart partner and head on over to the driving range (there should be a small net-bag of range balls for each of you already on the cart). Les Grove will meet your group between the range and the first tee and get you the score card to use.
We will meet briefly at 11:15 (in the cart parking area between the driving range and the practice green next to the 1st tee box on the North Course) to clarify the B-B-B format, to make sure everyone knows how to enforce strict order of play, to be clear on how to record the B-B-B points on the scorecards, and to make sure everyone knows when and where to meet after the round. Strict order of play must be followed at all times (not "Ready" golf ). For order of play - we'll apply the following rules:
- Teeing order must follow "Honors", based on prior hole gross scores. This is essential on Par 3's, but should be practiced on all holes (in case some fool actually drives a green on a par 4 - I've seen it happen on that very course). We won't worry too much about order on the first hole - its a par 5. They can spin a tee or just go in whatever order they agree on. Foursomes using different tee boxes will only enforce this on Par 3's unless two or more players want to declare they are "going for the green" (not real likely).
- Throughout ALL play, the player whose ball (as it lies, if played, or where it is dropped) is furthest from the pin (not the edge of the green) ALWAYS hits first - no exceptions. If there is any doubt or dispute on this, simply ask someone else in the foursome to make a call, either by their visual judgment, or by pacing off the distance, which ever of these two methods the players in question agree upon for that particular call (if they're both 400 yards from the pin, pacing may not be the right option). Once the call is made, its final - PLAY (we're here to have fun). A Bingo is scored when any player's ball comes to rest on the green first.
- Around the green, the player whose ball is furthest from the pin still hits first. If someone’s ball is on the green and is farther away from the pin than another ball that is not on the green, they would putt before the player with the closer ball hits onto the green. Once the ball off the green becomes the furthest away, put the flag back in the hole and they hit onto the green. That means someone could actually win the Bango with a putt, even though they were a long way from the pin when they first landed on the green.
- Once all the balls are on the green, a Bango is awarded to the player who’s ball is closest to the hole. Again, any question about who is closer must be resolved by having someone else in the foursome make a measurement (using their feet) to determine the Bango winner.
- Once the Bango winner has been determined, play proceeds, always with the player whose ball is furthest from the pin putting first - again, no exceptions. If there is any doubt or dispute on this, again ask someone else in the foursome to measure the distance and establish who putts next. A Bongo is scored when any player's ball goes in the hole first. You generally want to mark your putt, no matter how close it is to the hole, until the Bongo is awarded - anyone who chooses to “tap-in” & finish their putt out of order, before the Bango is awarded, is not eligible for the Bongo, even if everyone else’s last putt is shorter.
- Weird things that can happen... - if someone actually gets in the hole with a chip or with a long putt while someone else is off the green, they can actually win the Bongo before a Bango is awarded. Also, if anyone holes a chip before a Bango is awarded, they inherently win both the Bango and the Bongo. If two people hole their chip before any putts drop, the first one wins the Bongo and they would tie for the Bango (they'd both be in the hole once everyone is on the green - this is not likely, but can happen). If this happens or the group determines more than one ball on the green are essentially the same distance from the hole, the Bango point is split between them (each get a share of the point).
